Municipal agencies are starting to take notice of cyber threats, and make cybersecurity a high priority. While these organizations might have felt relatively safe in the past, the industry is now a target. By getting comfortable in the belief that their agency is too small to be worthwhile, many have made themselves an ideal target for hackers.
Any organization that is lax about security is an easy target, and there is nothing a hacker loves more than businesses, agencies, and firms that won’t make them break a sweat. The less effort these cybercriminals need to put in to get a payoff, the more likely it is they’ll keep choosing under protected municipal agencies.
Are you on this list? Ask yourself these questions:
- Has your password length and complexity changed in the past year?
- Are you forced to update your account password every 40-60 days?
- Does anyone else, other than the IT guy, get backup reports?
- Have you given any staff training on identifying and dealing with cyber threats?
You probably answered ‘no’ to most or all of these, which means you’ve got a few things to address. A few small changes can make a big difference and take the target off your back!
